He and Casey had traveled together here and there since meeting. It was awesome enough having another trainer as a friend, but riding around on his Dragonite made it even better. It was like nothing else he had experienced before, and he certainly loved it. It was invigorating to feel the air as they flew over the land. On top of that, he enjoyed the young man's company. It was great that he'd met someone so cool already.

Today was one of those days where they were travelling together, and Landon was thankful for the company. Sometimes it was nice to have someone to talk to that could talk back. Sure, his Pokemon understood him and could make sounds, but it wasn't the same as holding a conversation with another human. Hopefully the more experienced trainer didn't move past the first gym too quickly before he was able to get his first badge as well, so they could travel together.

Though he was intent on making as many friends as possible, he wanted to also hold on to as many of them as he could as well. A group of people to share ideas and tips with was much better than trying to take on the whole league secluded from others. Exploring different opinions and suggestions was the foundation to moving forward, and he fully intended to get as much input as he could.

They'd stopped for lunch for the moment at a little town he'd never heard of. It was hard to talk when flying on the back of a Pokemon, given the wind and everything else, so now was the only time they really had to chat for the time being. He fully planned on jumping at the opportunity. It was a nice day, if a little hot. A nice breeze was going as they sat outside at a table. The little restaurant looked down on having Pokemon out though, so it was just the two of them for the moment.

"Excited for the convention in Las Vegas?" It was only a few days away, so he was naturally getting pumped about it. There was going to be so many big name Poke Tech corporations and important people in the trainer world. There were a number of Gym Leaders too who might be there he'd heard, and he was hoping he'd get to meet some of them.

"I'm not even sure what all I'm gonna do yet. There's so much to choose from." He'd browsed online at the schedule of events for the convention, and it was packed with stuff he wanted to go to. Unfortunately there was a lot of overlap, so he needed to pick and choose what he wanted to do most before setting the rest of his schedule. Plus, he didn't want to keep it too strict. The nurse was much more of a 'go with the flow' kind of person.

"Got any specific plans while you're there?" Landon knew full well that Las Vegas had lots to offer, and that a gathering like this was a great time for friends to catch up and see each other. When you're a trainer travelling around, it limits the time you get to spend with the people you're close to. There were a few people he wanted to see himself, but most of his friends and family were staying home for the event.

Although he'd never openly admit it, having someone around to bullshit with made training a lot more fun. Case had gotten used to traveling alone over the years but it wasn't something he ever thought he could go grow to like. Just something he couldn't do much about since he had so few true friends. Zen and him were supposed to tackle this challenge thing together but something or other happened and she had a last minute change of plans. No big deal.

Then there was Rho. She technically couldn't leave the gym too often but she did that anyway. The bigger obstacle was the fact that she'd already beaten the league. His bestie could have no doubt accompanied him anyway but that would have just been weird. Not to mention the fact that even she probably couldn't get away with taking so much time away.

So, when he finally took the plunge and started this extended roadtrip, Casey didn't expect to have anyone to bitch about the locals to. Thankfully, he'd found Landon. The whole bodybuilder nurse thing was kinda taking him time to get used to but otherwise, chatting with the guy was fairly easy. Sure he didn't provide too many witty comebacks like Rho would have, but Case would take what he could get.

Besides, that whole sunshine demeanor thing the guy had going was rather intriguing. He had a lot of fun pressing Landon's buttons as a result.

"Can't believe they won't let us have our Pokemon out," he complained, not so subtly. Casey was aware that he'd been asked a few questions but he felt that this was way more important. "Seriously, my Pokemon have a lot more manners than some of these slobs."

He jerked his chin upward at a middle-aged woman with a bad dye job upon realizing that she was scowling at him from the table behind Landon, as if to ask her what the hell she thought she was looking at. The contempt he got back was delicious.

"They probably eat less too," he snarked, looking right at her.

Casey was... interesting to be around. He seemed a little less considerate than most of his friends back home. Or at least more sarcastic. It wasn't a bad thing necessarily, it just took a little getting used to. Landon was used to people a little more like himself, but being around someone different was a good experience. Besides, the trainer seemed like a good guy all around, if having some opinions he didn't agree with.

His questions were ignored, as his friend seemed focused on another subject. He shrugged it off and listened to what he had to say, just happy to chat at all. Before he could get a response in however, the young man was throwing around some general insults. The nurse's eyes followed the motion from his chin, seeing a woman with strange hair. She didn't seem pleased about the comment, but that wasn't his concern.

He turned his head back to Casey, answering the complaint. "Yeah, it's definitely strange not being able to have them out." Then in a lower voice with a grin, he continued with another question. "Someone you know? Or just a stranger who looked at you the wrong way?" It wasn't a good reason to insult her, but Landon wasn't one to rain on someone's parade on a little mostly harmless fun. There was a line of what he could tolerate, but he hadn't passed that yet.

"You think I would associate with that?" he asked, incredulous. The feeling was very real, but played up for humor's sake. Truth be told, the lady reminded him of some distant relatives he'd met once while at a family reunion in Texas. For better or worse, he was indeed associated with "something like that" by blood, however distantly.

Funnily enough, the woman seemed to take more offense at the suggestion than he himself had. Case couldn't be quite sure but her throwing down her fork and knife and marching toward them seemed like a very good indication. The guy who was with her -probably her husband- was rushing to catch up. He ended up tripping over a chair leg in the process as he attempted to hold his wife back.

A grin greeted the duo as they came up behind Landon.

"Can I help you?" he cooed, turning his admirer's face beet red.

"That's it you little shit. I'm tired of listening to you mouth off about me. Let's settle this."

For a brief moment, Casey thought that she was going to call the cops or the sheriff or whatever local law enforcement Podunk little towns had. As such, he was pleasantly surprised at her next words.

"Battle me."

She was speaking his language.

"Two on two match?"

Case shot Landon a look as if to say, "can you believe this broad" but did not ask his companion's permission before involving him in his little feud.

"You're on!" the lady snapped, dragging her husband by the collar towards the street. The rather meek man with a receding hairline and an accountant's nose could only stutter a weak protest, though he did reveal his wife's name. Carol. It seemed fitting.

"Guess we're doing this," Casey laughed, rising from his chair and starting towards the middle of the empty street that led through the center of town. "You ready?"

A moment later, he found a Charizard snarling by his opponent's side.

Well, this just got interesting.

Trying not to laugh, he was torn between finding it comical and worrying about it offending the woman. Case clearly wasn't worried about that, or he wouldn't have been so open and blunt with his comments or behavior. Nonetheless, Landon was smiling at his friend, though he'd twitched at the sound of the slamming on the table behind him. He hadn't realized exactly what was going on at first, but before he was able to get anything out he was able to read enough from Casey's expression to turn and see she was headed over.

Oh boy. What did you do Casey. The situation was... awkward for him, to say the least. He wasn't one for rude comments or insults, and definitely wasn't known for his anger. If anything, he was considered someone who 'needed to stand up for himself more often'. The nurse thought he was fine, as long as someone wasn't being directly detrimental to his health. But this casual insulting and lack of regard for how the other felt? This was new to him.

Saying he was afraid for what she meant was an understatement. Landon couldn't well stand by and watch his friend get hurt, but a fight wasn't exactly something he'd be much good at. He locked eyes for a moment with the man who followed, who looked about as enthusiastic about the situation as himself. Then, it took an interesting turn that he wasn't expecting. First his eyes turned to the woman, confusion spreading across his face. Then to Casey, at his almost immediate response.

Catching his friend's gaze, he was a little shocked he hadn't been consulted. The man accompanying the woman hadn't been either, which was at least a little comforting. Though it wasn't any good - it still meant a pokemon battle in a random place. Sure, his team was rested and probably ready to go, but who knew how experienced these two good be. The man didn't seem too threatening, but obviously this woman had to have some skill to back up her challenge of a stranger.

Shifting uncomfortably as the two walked away, he returned his attention to the trainer across from him. Was he ready? "Uh, I guess?" That was convincing. He starting standing up so they could move. "I mean, ready as I'll ever be for an impromptu battle I suppose." His laughter and easygoingness caused Landon to grin a bit as they started towards the street. At least he was confident. Though he idly wondered who they'd choose. They hadn't battled together yet, and he wasn't sure just yet how his pokemon would compliment one of Casey's team. He'd just have to make it work.

And then he noticed the Charizard. Shit. He didn't let it show in his face, instead turning his thoughts to the technical side. A Fire and Flying type, so Poly or Volt would be a good choice. Rain Dance would weaken the large pokemon as well, though he was curious to see what the other opponent and Case picked first. While having the dual type of Ice would help Poly, he still wanted to be careful before he made a solid choice. Once one of them was out, that was it.

He leaned in to Case, standing at the other trainers side. "Who do you think we should go with? Any thoughts?" Landon whispered, his eyes trained on the older man's hands, fiddling with a couple pokeballs. The lady didn't seem very patient with him, so he wondered if the choice would be his or just whatever she told him. Hopefully whatever it was wasn't a good choice. They could use an advantage if these two knew what they were doing. His bag was slipping down his shoulder as he unzipped the bag to get at his pokeballs.

Finally a second light came out from their opponents, and out came a clefable. He noted it was a fairy type, and a quite unpredictable one. The metronome move could be a gamble, so it wasn't a death warrant necessarily. Otherwise, it had some pretty good defenses, and a massive move-pool. There was no telling until they got into the thick of things what sort of moves it knew.

[OOC: IDK if you already had a pokemon in mind for the man. Just let me know and I'd be happy to adjust!]

The Clefable impressed him less than the Charizard had but Casey remained wary of it. He knew better than to dismiss the creature because it looked froufrou. His own choice of Pokemon for this battle was a testament to the fact that tough opponents could come in rather cutesy packages. Trip was not what one would call intimidating. It didn't exactly help that he was side eyeing his newfound quarry, turning his head off kilter immediately upon taking his place in the street either.

His trainer sighed.

Nonetheless, there was a reason why he'd been chosen over Ariel or Altair who might've impressed his master's opponent more. Or Landon for that matter. Case turned to his newly-minted battle partner then.

"Not the Spheal. He'll have a hard time maneuvering against the Charizard. Leave it to me, focus on the Clefable. But take your shots on the big guy if you see an opening. I think you have a Minun right? An electric type should come in handy against a flying type."

Upon finishing, he craned his gaze over toward the crazy lady and her presumed husband.

"One Pokemon each? Battle ends when both Pokemon on one side are down."

"Sounds good to me scrawny. Terry too. Tell your boyfriend to hurry up. I haven't got all day. Some people have jobs..."

He was beginning to like her more and more.

He nodded to his current battle partner, hand shifting to his belt to pull out the pokeball for his electric type. He activated the ball and tossed it, releasing Volt, who was happy to be out. He looked around, and only glanced at his trainer before locking on the opponents across the way. The little pokemon hopped a bit, sparking with excitement at the potential battle ahead. Landon smirked and returned his attention to Casey, who'd begun speaking again while the nurse called out his pokemon.

A two on two substitution team battle. It was anxiety inducing and invigorating at the same time. He'd wanted to be a trainer, and here he was, in his first double battle. He'd have to pay close attention to Casey, who was definitely the senior trainer out of the two of them. He'd need to tune into his strategy and try to stay in sync with him if they were to have a chance at winning. The other side had some powerful looking pokemon, and at full evolution. He felt outmatched at the moment, but there was no way he was going to give up. Both he and Volt could use the experience.

The comment about being his boyfriend hadn't gone over his head either though. Landon tried his best not to let it bother him, and steeled him expression. He was an extremely awkward person when it came to dating - or lack thereof, in this case. Just the insinuation that they were together was enough to send his mind into a flurry. He wanted to watch Case for a reaction, but knew that'd throw him off. He needed to play it cool. It'd just been an off-hand comment, right? They were dating. He would know... right?

Snapping out of his temporary stupor, he'd nod his head up at the woman. "I'm ready." His eyes wandered to the Xatu that stood in front of Casey. It was certainly an interesting choice for the battle, but he had confidence that his friend was building a strategy from the get-go. He seemed like the type who was always one-step ahead of his opponents in battle. "Who gets the first move?" Sometimes trainers would just go with the flow, but league battles generally had standards set for who goes first. It was something that was supposed to be determined before the start of the battle, but it was generally a pretty loose rule. Whatever the case, he was more support in this battle, so lashing out the first attack probably wasn't the best move. He was ready to call out Thunder Wave at the clefable at a moments notice, since Case was going to focus on the charizard. Disabling the fairy type from the start would be a big advantage.
